Curriculum

Children who are engaged, learning and having fun

Creative Curriculum

Vincennes Academy serves families with children between the ages of six weeks through five years. Children are nurtured with peers in rooms designated for Infants, Toddlers, and Preschoolers. Our qualified teachers follow the Creative Curriculum, and organize their lesson plans to keep your child engaged, learning and having fun! The curriculum focuses on how children develop and learn, the learning environment, what children learn, the teacher's role and the family's role.

Infants

A typical day in our infant nursery is centered around the needs of your child. You provide the nursery staff with your desired schedule for your infant including feeding, napping and playtimes. Our staff provides a warm and nurturing environment where your child is held and cuddled frequently throughout their day. Your child will discover their world through enriched sensory activities, developmentally appropriate toys, and a safe environment for crawling and walking. The staff will also engage your child in a variety of songs, games, books, and art that will be centered around weekly themes. Your family will be provided with a theme calendar monthly. Families will be encouraged to participate in corresponding activities at home.

Toddlers

A typical day for toddlers is centered around building structure into your child's life. Toddlers will learn to be independent, gain self-confidence and develop self-help skills. Your toddler will learn the importance of sharing and playing cooperatively. After morning drop off, the day begins with songs welcoming your child and their friends. Then they will move into free play at one of the play centers such as dramatic play, drawing, reading, the water table or the block center. Next will be a morning snack, then circle time. After that the group will move to the reading center. Next your child will have the chance to burn off some energy in our gross motor room or with outdoor play. Then your child will have lunchtime, followed by a nap. In the afternoon, your child will work on an art project based on the theme of the day. Following that will be semi-structured play and activities also based on the theme using props from the play centers. Then your child will have more free play in the gross motor room until pick-up. In the summer months, we take daily trips to the waterfront and participate in twice-weekly activities sponsored by Explore and More and the Buffalo Museum of Science.

Preschoolers

A typical day for preschoolers is centered on preparing your child for an early learning environment. Following morning drop off, the day will start with songs to welcome your child and their friends. Many of the day's activities are the similar to the toddler room and include free play, themed activities, gross motor play, reading and play centers. Your 3 year old will begin to have more teacher directed play. Your 4 year will be involved in intensive kindergarten preparation, with an increasing emphasis on academically based concepts and activities. Our preschool teachers will enhance your child's development of critical thinking skills, problem solving skills, and their ability to ask and answer complex questions. Children are encouraged to use their imagination during activities. Our preschool curriculum promotes self-confidence, independence, and academic skills. Our goal is to provide and exciting learning atmosphere while providing the necessary tools to prepare your child for kindergarten.
